[Otonashi was a mix between counting down the numbers on the doors, and lost in his own thoughts. So hearing another voice in the hallway caused him to jump back a bit.]
Well I'm from a place that's...similar? But I only just got here.
[Yeah, except for the whole 'you get a wish granted if you graduate someone' Afterlife and wherever the hell this is were pretty close. If only he got a wish the last time...]
[His voice rises a bit. This guy was starting to get to him] I'm just being honest, why do you care?
[He nods- that... makes the 'kind of' answer make more sense, at least. Granted, it still means he just got here but whatever maybe the kid's confused.] Right.
[Another short crease of the eyebrows, and he shrugs, shoulder rolling casually.]
I don't care.
[Yep.]
If you'd been here a bit, you'd know a direction to point me in. If you're new, asking you's a waste of time.
[....goddamnit he is that asshole. He's tempted to say he'll pass on the message and go check out what's in the vending machine (though that just makes him wonder if he has to eat/drink/etc when dead. he's breathing, so... probably?) but... if this guy is one of the wardens, then... maybe he does know something.]
[His eyes close, lips curling down in distaste. Dryly: ] ...That's me.
Unless you ain't looking for a Shinjiro. [What are the odds there's another Aragaki that showed up today, after all. His hands slide into the pockets of his coat, shoulders hunching up slightly.]
[He checks the name again. Yep - Shinjiro's the first name...Damn it.]
Um, yeah...I guess I am.
[He closes the file and offers his hand. (It's probably going to get slapped back in his face. But trying to get this meeting back on the right foot doesn't hurt.)]
[He doesn't hit away the hand-- but he does look down at it for a moment, his own remaining fixed in his pockets, before looking back up. Yep, just gonna... ignore it. He's not big on touching.]
[But Giles did say his warden would 'guide him' and then he could go back to being dead. Which would be good, because damn he doesn't... really want to think about the events right before his death and implications of being here.]
Otonashi. Got it. [Again, his shoulder rolls.] So that folder tell you what I need to 'come to terms' with?
[A self-depreciating scoff.] 'Cause if we gotta go through it all, you're gonna be here a while.
[Well...at least that went better than expected. He puts the hand down.]
It actually doesn't say anything specific. Just your name and room number. See? [He shows him the page, just a name and room number]
And I can't leave until we get through it, so we may as well start now.
[How in the hell is that supposed to happen? Maybe this stupid folder is missing a page or something because just knowing the jerk's name really isn't a lot to go off of.]
[A sigh and a small smile:]So...do you want to get out of this hallway at least?
Sure. Up on deck? [He'd like to see more pf the ship, too, so it works. Thankfully he's not one for getting seasick.]
[He'll let Otonashi lead, not knowing the layout of the ship. Having at least some-sort of goal is good, though: it lets him avoid stirring over all the issues about the situation, mind going in circles and just frustrating himself. At least he can focus on trying to get more info now.] You don't look much older than me. How'd you get offed?
What you want most? And what's that? [he doesn't anticipate getting an answer, but just that fact is interesting enough: so the wardens are plied with promises for helping the rest.]
[So, not really knowing where anything else is on this stupid boat, they wind back up at the vending machine. And, naturally, he gets himself another canned coffee. No, he does not have a problem]
I was in a train accident, on my way to take my college entrance exam.
[A lingering pause that's disguised by him drinking his coffee. He doesn't really want to think about what happened after the train accident part too much...]
As for what I want most, well...that would be being able to return to the one I love.
[He finishes the can, and tosses it in the trash can.]
That sucks. [He'll... look at the drinks and remember that he's pretty damn broke. Arisato always kept the money they found in the tower. So he'll pass on getting a drink. Looking over the choices, though, let's him try and mask the short raise of the brows at the honesty given. It definitely makes him more curious.]
I got shot. [A short shrug. Even though it... pretty much just happened for him, he's not particularly broken up about it.] I dunno if it was the bleeding out or my lungs getting screwed up by the bullet that did me in.
[He'll just internalize all the issues there, keeping that same aloof facade up. In a strange place, talking to a strange guy: like hell he'll let any of his thoughts show willingly.]
[At least the guy was taking being dead...well? A bit too well, if you asked him. He'd like to know a bit more - who had shot him, and why. But, that could come later.]
[He looks up, hands in his pockets. He smiles slightly as he recalls:] We didn't have anyone really guiding us. Probably would have saved a bunch of time if that were the case...
[For a short moment, his lips curl up- Not into a true smile, but more a sort of jaded amusement at that, the gesture not quite reaching the rest of his expression before fading back. How did this guy plan on guiding him when he didn't know anything about their situation himself? When he probably knew nothing about Personae, or his motivations or-- or anything aside from the name? His cynicism can't help but acknowledge that.
But he'll keep the thought to himself, instead just shaking his head. Again, there's that dry tone: ]
You think so? Someone pushing up in your business just so they can get a reward?
[He just looks at his assignment's expression. This guy really had nerve-for a second Otonashi thought about saying "screw this" and just giving up on the while thing. But giving up would mean never being able to see Kanade again. So, he just had to keep on trying.]
[but that doesn't stop him from getting just a bit angry. His voice rises from frustration:]
no subject
Me? Eh, kind of?
[Similar circumstances count right?]
no subject
The hell kind of non-answer is that?
[maybe he'll just skulk around and people watch for information rather than directly asking people.]
no subject
Well I'm from a place that's...similar? But I only just got here.
[Yeah, except for the whole 'you get a wish granted if you graduate someone' Afterlife and wherever the hell this is were pretty close. If only he got a wish the last time...]

no subject
[Yeah, he's done with this]
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to find my...inmate or whatever.
no subject
Sure. [He lifts a hand to dismiss him and turns; and adds to himself:] Sucks to be that asshole.
no subject
[Pointing the way he came from:] There's a vending machine on the upper deck.
no subject
[His eyes close, lips curling down in distaste. Dryly: ] ...That's me.
[...Damn it.]
no subject
[Slight disbelief:] Really?
no subject
Unless you ain't looking for a Shinjiro. [What are the odds there's another Aragaki that showed up today, after all. His hands slide into the pockets of his coat, shoulders hunching up slightly.]
So you my keeper here?
no subject
Um, yeah...I guess I am.
[He closes the file and offers his hand. (It's probably going to get slapped back in his face. But trying to get this meeting back on the right foot doesn't hurt.)]
I'm Otonashi.
no subject
[But Giles did say his warden would 'guide him' and then he could go back to being dead. Which would be good, because damn he doesn't... really want to think about the events right before his death and implications of being here.]

[A sigh and a small smile:]So...do you want to get out of this hallway at least?
no subject
[Yeah, leaving the hallway would be good. He glances up to the room he just came from: that would be the most private... but also a bit cramped.]
...Sure. My rooms over there, or we can go wherever else.
no subject
How about we head up top? It'll be less cramped than the rooms are.
[As they start walking.]
I did die, but that's not how I got here. I made a deal - if I help you get out of here, then I get what I want most.
no subject
[He'll let Otonashi lead, not knowing the layout of the ship. Would you like something? I've got change...
[At least offering makes this whole thing....slightly less awkward?]
no subject
Yeah. This thing take yen, I take it? [Or not. Yeah, he's totally cool with mooching.] Or... whatever money they use on a hell-boat.
[who even knows.]
no subject
Ha, 'hell-boat'. That's a good name for it. [handing him the money:] Here.
[While Shinjiro's making his choice, more to himself:]It was probably the latter that did it.
no subject
I dunno. It was pretty quick. [and multiple point-blank shots with a fifty caliber but whatever.] Don't really matter now.
[Popping open the can, he glances up.] So did you have to go through all this obnoxious therapy crap after you kicked it?
no subject
[He looks up, hands in his pockets. He smiles slightly as he recalls:]
